History
Majestic yet sober, the former Tobacco Factory building, now Vista Ostuni, stands as if guarding the White City while
also welcoming guests. It has stood there for so long that the count has been lost. Over the centuries, its purpose has changed several times, yet the same spirit of hospitality has remained constant: once a convent, then a hospital, it was a refuge for the most vulnerable and the lonely, for adults and children alike, for poor and unfortunate young women. Until, in the 1920s, it became the Tobacco Factory. It has witnessed generations come and go, customs evolve, and time reshape the world around it - yet it has remained unmistakably itself, steadfast and solid. And now, restored in a conservative and respectful manner, it has once again become an emblem of Ostuni – not only as an historic landmark reborn, but as a beacon of a gentle and sustainable kind of luxury hospitality.
